Thinking of You Week is all about encouraging people to connect through the simple act of sending a card.
For GCA member Karin Hobbs of Miss You Mail, that message has inspired a unique initiative that helps people stay connected with loved ones they have lost.
As retailers, publishers and card lovers prepare their own Thinking of You Week activities, Karin’s story is a reminder that there are many different ways to get involved and highlight the positive impact cards can have on people’s lives.
A Different Kind of Card
We often think of cards as a way to connect with friends and family, celebrate milestones or brighten someone’s day. But for many people, there are still things they would like to say to someone who is no longer here.
That’s where Miss You Mail comes in.
Each card comes with a postal address, allowing people to write from the heart and send a card to someone they have loved and lost. It’s a simple idea, but one that offers comfort, reflection and a way to keep important memories alive.
As Karin explains, feelings and emotions don’t disappear when a person close to us dies. Writing a card gives those feelings somewhere to go and provides an opportunity to continue that connection.
There is also something special about still being able to write a loved one’s name on an envelope and address a card to them via Miss You Mail, helping to acknowledge that they are still remembered and still matter.
The Power of Putting Pen to Paper
One of the key messages of Thinking of You Week is that cards are about more than birthdays, anniversaries and major occasions.
A handwritten card can help us express feelings that are sometimes difficult to say out loud, and it can create moments of connection, comfort and reflection.
Karin’s initiative shines a light on another way cards can make a difference, helping people process grief, share memories and express thoughts that might otherwise remain unsaid.
An Inspiring Idea for Thinking of You Week
Every year, Thinking of You Week sees retailers, publishers and individuals come up with creative ways to promote the campaign.
Some organise in-store displays, others run community initiatives, social media campaigns or activities that encourage people to send an unexpected card.
Miss You Mail is a great example of how businesses can interpret the campaign in their own way while staying true to its core message of connection.
By encouraging people to write from the heart, Karin’s initiative highlights the many different roles cards can play in our lives and the meaningful impact they can have.
Supporting the Campaign
The Miss You Mail collection is created and printed in the UK on FSC-certified paper, with every card including a donation to charity.
To mark Thinking of You Week and celebrate the love and remembrance their cards carry, Miss You Mail will also be offering free shipping throughout the campaign using the code TOYW.
Inspired to Take Part?
Thinking of You Week takes place from 21-27 September and encourages people across the UK to reach out and let others know they’re in their thoughts.
Karin’s initiative shows that there is no single way to get involved. Whether you’re creating a retail display, hosting an event, highlighting a cause close to your heart or simply encouraging customers to send an unexpected card, every activity helps spread the message that a card can make a real difference.
